18-20 cm. Brown back, whitish underparts, strong and pointed bill. Sexes identical.

Egypt, Pakistan, Afghanistan, northernmost India to south China, southeast Asia and south to Australia.

There are 8 subspecies.

Large reed beds, bushes.

[edit] Behaviour

It builds a basket like nest in the reeds and 3-6 eggs are laid.

The diet includes insects.
