Orange undertail coverts, brownish belly, large white eyering, and much larger than other Vermivora warblers.

Breeds in the Big Bend area of Texas and eastern Mexico.
Winters in central and southwest Mexico.

This is a monotypic species1.
It was formerly included in Vermivora, Gill and Donsker place it in Leiothlypis.
