Identification

33-38cm. Pale grey to brown, finely patterned with black and buff, well camouflaged, large orange iris.

Distribution

Nicaragua, Colombia, Brazil, northern Argentina and Uruguay.

Taxonomy

There are 3 subspecies.

Habitat

Forest, open woodland, grasslands and plantations.

Behaviour

Most active at dawn and dusk.

The diet includes insects.
