Identification

17-18cm.

  • Dark streaked breast
  • Thin pale crown stripe
  • Long neck
  • Long legs
  • Slightly curved bill

Distribution

Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt.
In Morocco, this species remains very localised but can be found in the east of the Middle-Atlas mountainous chains1.

Taxonomy

Two subspecies are recognised2: duponti and margaritae.

Habitat

Steppes with scrubland.

Behaviour

It is a ground nester; 3-4 eggs are laid.

The diet includes insects and seeds.
