Size-28cm
Large and sluggish with blackish plumage. Broad pinkish bill and orbital skin together with buff throat and subterminal tail band of white spots diagnostic. Broad white bar at primaries conspicuous in flight. Yellow-orange streak on back usually inconspicous at rest but shows well in flight.
Juvenile - bill paler,throat blackish, lacks streak on back.

Tenasserim (Myanmar) and Indochina, through the Malay Peninsula to Sumatra and Borneo.
An uncommon species, apparently decreasing and disappearing in parts of its range due to logging of forest and habitat loss.

Forests. Frequents the canopy and middle storey.
Occurs in the lowlands and hills, up to 1220m in Burma, 2000m in Indochina.
