Identification

48–53 cm (19-21 in)

  • Greyish overall plumage
  • Round-tipped ear tufts
  • Pale facial disc

Distribution

Asia: found in Nepal, Pakistan, India, Eastern and Western Himalayas and Bangladesh
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, and Malay Peninsula

Habitat

Open woodland usually near water, oil palm plantations, mango and tamarind trees.

Behaviour

Nocturnal.

Breeding

It builds a nest from sticks, placed in a tree near water.
