Dusky lory is 25-28 cm, sexes alike.
All birds have dark brown upperparts and a pale crown.
There are 3 colour morphs, red, yellow and orange; the difference is found in the colours of the two narrow breast bands.

Found throughout New Guinea, Salawati and Yapen.

[edit] Taxonomy

This is seen as a monotypic species[1] by some authorities, while others recognize subspecies fuscata and incondida[2].

Lowland moist forests, cloud forest and mangroves.

[edit] Behaviour

Very noisy birds thus easy to spot.

[edit] Diet

They feed in large flocks on the flowers of different tree species and sometimes seen feeding with the Rainbow lories.
