58-65cm.

Male

  • Blue black plumage
  • Short white crest
  • Red facial skin

Female

  • Grey brown plumage
  • Brown wings
  • Black tail, central feathers are brown

Distribution

Vietnam.

Taxonomy

A monotypic species.
The described form Imperial Pheasant has shown to be a hybrid between this species and Silver Pheasant.

Habitat

Dense, wet lowland forests to 600m.

Behaviour

4-7 eggs are laid and are incubated for 21-22 days.

Vocalisation

Alarm call: puk-puk-puk.
