Identification

Length 15-17 cm
All-black; diagnostic greenish gloss in good light. The tail is longer and more deeply forked than any other saw-wing.

Distribution

Africa; from Senegal and Gambia through Mali and Nigeria to extreme western Cameroon. Rare in Niger

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Lowland forest and adjacent woodland and grassland; usually near water.
