Identification

Distribution

Arizona-Mexico border south locally to western Mexico.

Taxonomy

Was formerly placed in genus Aimophila.

Subspecies

Polytypic: two subspecies are recognized:

  • A. q. septentrionalis:
  • Southern Arizona to north-western Mexico (Sonora and western Chihuahua to central Sinaloa)
  • A. q. quinquestriata:
  • Arid western Mexico (northern Jalisco)

Habitat

Arid plains.
