Identification

The name comes from the faint white freckling on the breast. Note also the yellow iris and the brown crown with faint pale shaft streaking.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species1.

Spot-breasted Thornbird was until recently treated as a subspecies of Freckle-breasted Thornbird.
