- Dark eyestripe
- Median crown yellow (male has orange center to crown, often concealed)
- Nape grayish
- Upperparts olive
- Wings and tail blackish with 2 whitish wingbars
- Thick black bar across base of secondaries
- Yellowish flight feather edgings
- Throat and underparts pale gray
- Washed buff on flanks
