Identification

Has grey crown and sharp line separating narrow white area under the black mask from grey underside; otherwise very similar to Black-crowned Palm-Tanager.

Distribution

South-east Hispaniola (Haiti and nearest parts of Dominican Republic.

Taxonomy

Two subspecies are recognized1: poliocephalus and coryi - the latter restricted to Gonave Island.

Habitat

Mangrove, scrub, gardens, city parks, agro-forestry plantations, pine, semi-humid forest, and humid forest.

Behaviour

Consumes soft-bodied fruit as well as arthropods.
