ViewsGreater Antillean OrioleFrom Opus
[edit] Identification[edit] Adult
[edit] ImmaturesNon-descript buffy-brownish and can be confusing compared to both adults and other oriole species. [edit] Distribution & TaxonomyGreater Antillean Oriole is found in the Bahamas (only on Andros and Abaco), Cuba, Hispaniola, and Puerto Rico, all with smaller islands included. A recent thread here in Birdforum revealed that the Cuban forms could be treated as a separate species, Cuban Oriole, and the local field guide for Puerto Rico already treats the subspecies there as a full species, Puerto Rican Oriole, "Icterus portoricensis". Indeed, four new species have been proposed from Cuba, Hispanola, Puerto Rico, and Bahamas; look at the link to Birdlife under "External Links".
