The entire body is covered in bars.

Mainy seen in Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Missouri, with smaller populations in North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Oklahoma, Iowa, and Texas.

[edit] Taxonomy

The Attwater's subspecies of the Texas coastal grasslands is critically endangered. The eastern seaboard subspecies ("Heath Hen") is extinct. The species itself belongs to the Genus Category:Tympanuchus.

Seen in tallgrass prairies.

Often seen in flocks of over 15.
