[edit] Identification

Length 10-11 cm. A small, active, noisy warbler with olive-green wings and olive-green or grey mantle, back and tail. The head is grey and the under parts are white.

Most of sub-Saharan Africa.

[edit] Taxonomy

A varied species; Clements[1] recognises 17 subspecies.
These subspecies are sometimes split up in three species:

  • C. harteri - Hartert's Camaroptera in Gabon and NW Angola (monotypic)
  • C. brevicaudata - Grey-backed Camaroptera from Senegal to Ethiopia (monotypic)
  • C. brachyura - Green-backed Camaroptera with all remaining subspecies in the rest of its distribution.

The name Grey-backed Camaroptera is used for the pre-split species too.

Calls include a loud, snapping bidup-bidup-bidup and a nasal, "bleating" neeehh.
