- Eastern Cameroon, southern Chad and Central African Republic to South Sudan, extreme northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, northern Uganda, and western Kenya
- E. c. elegans:
- Sudan (Darfur and Kordofan to Sennar)
- E. c. abyssinica:
- Southeastern Sudan, eastern South Sudan, western Eritrea, and western and central Ethiopia
- E. c. elgonensis:
- Western Kenya (Mount Elgon to southern Nandi Hills)
Habitat
Acacia woodland, open wooded savanna.
