Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Pternistis vs. Francolinus
Sibley & Monroe (1996) placed this species in the genus Pternistis, but this genus has not been recognized by Clements (2007) or Howard & Moore (2003), and the Opus follows in this consensus.
Habitat
Plains and savannas, with a rainfall around 500-700mm annually.
Behaviour
Diet
Their main diet consists of sedge tubers and seeds, with the addition of insects such as grasshoppers and termites.
