Distribution
Hawaiian Islands; ranges south to Polynesia.
Nests primarily in rocky openings in high elevation alpine lava fields and mountainsides on Mauna Loa and East Maui. Smaller nesting populations in other parts of the Hawaiian Islands are less well known.
