Taxonomy

Subspecies[1]

  • P. i. implicata - Guadalcanal Hooded Whistler:
  • P. i. richardsi - Bougainville Hooded Whistler:

As the two subspecies have major plumage differences they should maybe better treated as two full species which Clements does since the 2014 update. However, the other worldlists have not yet followed that split.

Habitat

Montane forests mainly at 1200 - 2400m. Co-occurs with Golden Whistler in lower elevations.

Behaviour

Feeds on insects. Takes sometimes small snails, berries and seeds.
Fledglings were seen in October. No other information about breeding.
Resident species.
