Adult

  • Greenish-brown back
  • Pale wing panel
  • Yellow underparts
  • Orange bill (strong and pointed)
  • Bluish-grey legs

Sexes are identical

Distribution

Breeds from central Europe to western Siberia and northern Iran; winters to southern Africa.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Open deciduous woodland with bushes and also parks and gardens, often near water.

Behaviour

Breeding

The nest is in a tree or bush; the clutch consists of 4 to 6 eggs.
