Contents

Identification

29 cm. Green, blue-grey head and back, green collar, black chin stripe, blue tail tipped yellow, red upper mandible, brown lower. Female similar with black upper mandible. Juveniles mainly green with dark red bill.

Distribution

Sri Lanka.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.

Habitat

Forests.

Behaviour

It nests in holes in large trees, laying 3-4 white eggs.

Diet includes fruit, seeds, buds and blossoms.
