Psilopogon australis

Identification

16-17 cm

Adult

Immature

  • Generally duller
  • Head mostly green without pattern and colouring of adults
  • Beak and orbital skin is paler than adult

Distribution

Asia: Found on Java and Bali (Indonesia)

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.
Formerly considered conspecific with Blue-eared Barbet.
Sometimes placed in the genus Psilopogon.

Habitat

Broadleaf evergreen forest, woodland to 1525m.

Behaviour

It nests in a tree hole.
