Identification
16-17 cm
Adult
- Blue crown and forehead
- Yellow Ear-coverts and cheek
- Black eye stripe and moustachial stripe framing the yellow
- Black lores
- Blue throat
- Black band below throat
- Golden-yellow band at top of breast with the rest of body green
- Black beak
Immature
- Generally duller
- Head mostly green without pattern and colouring of adults
- Beak and orbital skin is paler than adult
Distribution
Asia: Found on Java and Bali (Indonesia)
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Formerly considered conspecific with Blue-eared Barbet.
Sometimes placed in the genus Psilopogon.
Habitat
Broadleaf evergreen forest, woodland to 1525m.
Behaviour
It nests in a tree hole.
