Grey head and mantle, black mask, underparts are white, but with rufous flanks. The bill and legs are nearly black.

From NE Iran over Pakistan, India, the Himalayas, Sri Lanka, Burma and Indochina to Malaysia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Also in S and E China, Taiwan and the Philippines.
