10–11 cm (4-4¼ in)
Male

  • Yellowish-brown crown
  • Paler mottled ear-coverts
  • Redder towards nape
  • Dark red mantle

Distribution

From southeastern Peru and northern Bolivia to south central Amazonian Brazil.

Taxonomy

Formerly considered conspecific with Rufous-backed Antwren and Fulvous-throated Antwren under the name Stipple-throated Antwren.

Subspecies

Two subspecies recognized:

  • E. a. amazonica
  • southeastern Peru, northern Bolivia and south central Amazonian Brazil (west of the Madeira River) and northern Bolivia (Pando)
  • E. a. dentei
  • south central Amazonian Brazil, between the Madeira/Ji-Paraná rivers and the Aripuanã River - originally described as full species, Roosevelt Antwren.

Habitat

Mostly observed in terra firme forests.

Behaviour

There is no information on breeding or movements, though they are thought to be a resident species.

Diet

The diet consists mostly of insects and spiders.
