- Melocichla mentalis
Identification
Length 18-19 cm. A large, plain warbler with a dark, broad, rounded tail. It has a black malar stripe and unstreaked breast and backand.

Melocichla mentalis has five subspecies:[1]
- M. m. mentalis
- M. m. amauroura
- South Sudan and southwestern Ethiopia south to eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, western and central Kenya, western Tanzania, and northern and central Zambia
- M. m. orientalis
- M. m. incana
- Northeastern Tanzania
- M. m. luangwae
Habitat
Long, rank grass adjacent to forest.
