Northern Territory is bordered in the east by Queensland, in south by South Australia, in the west by Western Australia, and in the north by the Timor Sea, the Arafura Sea and the Gulf of Carpentaria, with Indonesia further to the north. It is over 1,349,129 square kilometres (520,902 sq mi) in size, making it the third largest of the Australian states and territories.

  • Charles Darwin National Park - Darwin
  • Kakadu National Park - located 257 kms east of Darwin. It is almost 20,000 square kms in size.
  • Territory Wildlife Park - located adjacent to the Berry Springs Nature Reserve, in Berry Springs, a 45 minute drive south of Darwin.
  • Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park
  • Watarrka National Park - on the western edge of the George Gill Range, 323 km southwest of Alice Springs and 1316 km south of Darwin, this national park is right in the centre of Australia. Along the Kings Canyon Rim walk, the following birds can be seen: Spinifex Pigeon, Zebra Finch, Grey-headed Honeyeater, Dusky Grasswren and Black-breasted Buzzard.
