Contopus ochraceus

Identification

Yellow-brownish upper side (darkest on crown, wings, and tail) and upper underside, with the lower part of the underside yellow, reaching up on central breast (notice that the underside color varies strongly with angle and intensity of light). Wings with two buff wing bars, bill has upper mandible dark and lower mandible entirely yellow.

Distribution

Highlands of southern half of Costa Rica, and extreme western Panama.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species.

Habitat

High elevation (usually above 2100 m asl.) in edge and openings of forest.

Behaviour

Eats insects which are caught by sallying from a bare branch or similar, usually returning to the same post. Reportedly shakes tail when landing.
