Short legs, long pointed wings, short bills and long forked tails. Brown back and head, brown wings with black flight feathers, white belly, chestnut underwings.
Distribution
Breeds eastern Asia; winters India to Southeast Asia, Philippines and Australasia. Accidental vagrant to Alaska (2 records).
Taxonomy
A monotypic species.
Habitat
Open country, often seen near water in the evening.
Behaviour
They hunt their insect prey on the wing.
2-3 eggs are laid on the ground.
