Identification

Crest is rarely erect, but when it is it will give the impression of a head ornament1.

Distribution

Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia.

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species which in the past has been placed in genus Heliochera; the second part of the name used to be rubrocristata.

Habitat

Mountains at temperate to subtropical elevations, in several different habitats including forests and suburban areas.

Behaviour

East both insects and berries.
