• Cinnamon rufous rump and underparts
• Male has a black spot, which may extend to become a chest band
• Bill
  • Long and decurved
  • Base of the mandible yellow

South America: found in Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil.

[edit] Subspecies

There are 4 subspecies^[1]:

• P. r. episcopus in central and east Venezuela, Guyana and adjacent Brazil
• P. r. ruber from Suriname to French Guiana, Brazil, southeast Peru and north Bolivia
• P. r. nigricinctus in extreme east Colombia to southwest Venezuela and north Peru
• P. r. longipennis in south Peru

Moist lowland forests, savanna and swamps.
