Distribution

Brunei, Indonesia, and Malaysia.

Taxonomy

Clements[1] recognizes seven subspecies which are split into three species (or placed in other species) by Gill and Donsker[2]:

  • Barusan Cuckoo-Dove (Macropygia modiglianii)
  • M. a. hypopercna:
  • Simeulue Island (off northwest Sumatra)
  • M. a. elassa:
  • Mentawi Islands (Siberut, Sipura and Pagai)
  • M. a. modiglianii:
  • Enggano Cuckoo-Dove (Macropygia cinnamomea)
  • M. a. cinnamomea:
  • Enggano Island (off western Sumatra)
  • Ruddy Cuckoo-Dove (Macropygia cinnamomea)
  • M. a. emiliana:
  • Krakatau, Java, Lombok, Sumbawa, Flores and Paloe islands

  • Kangean Islands (off northeast Java)
