Identification
Black bill in the Amazonian lowland form, bill yellowish to greenish or even pink in juveniles in all others.
Distribution
Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela.
Taxonomy
Seven subspecies are recognized[1]:
- P. a. salmoni
- P. a. atrocastaneus
- P. a. sincipitalis
- P. a. neglectus
- P. a. oleagineus
- P. a. alfredi
- P. a. angustifrons
Several field guides split this in two species, such that Russet-backed Oropendola becomes monotypic P. angustifrons and all others becoming Yellow-billed Oropendola P. alfredi.
