• White eyestripe
• Unstreaked grey-brown back
• Whitish-grey underparts

Distribution

Southern Europe into temperate western Asia.

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 3 subspecies^[1]:

• L. l. luscinioides:

• Central and eastern Europe to Iberian Peninsula and North Africa; winters to Sudan

• L. l. sarmatica:

• Ukraine and Sea of Azov to Volga and southern Urals; winters north-eastern Africa

• L. l. fusca:

• Turkey and Jordan to central Asia; winters to Sudan and Ethiopia

Habitat

Reedbeds and marshes.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes insects.

Breeding

The 3-6 eggs are laid in a nest in reeds.
