[edit] Identification

Brown upperparts, grey on the crown and nape, grey buff breast with dark streaks, dark face, grey cheeks, white throat and a short pointed tail. Small yellow streak just above the eye.

Coastal eastern and gulf coast United States.

[edit] Taxonomy

Polytypic. Consists of nine subspecies (of which the Dusky Seaside Sparrow is extinct).

Salt marshes and grasslands.

[edit] Behaviour

It builds an open cup nest in the salt marsh on tidal reeds and spartina grasses. 2-5 eggs are laid.

The diet includes marine invertebrates and seeds.
