Identification
14 cm. Dark grey crown, grey and white face, grey supercilium, and black crescent ear patch, olive-green upperparts, dusky wings, two yellow wing bars. White throat, green yellow breast becoming yellow on the belly. Heavy bill is black above and pink-based below. Sexes are similar; juveniles have a more olive crown, weaker face pattern, orange wing bars and paler underparts.
Distribution
Costa Rica, Colombia, northern Venezuela, northern Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru. Also Trinidad.

Habitat
Forests and woodland edges.
Behaviour
It builds a ball shaped nest which is lined with fine plant fibres, and has a side entrance. It is suspended by a tendril or root and built in a heavily shaded area. 2 white eggs are usually laid. The chicks fledge about 20 days after hatching.
The diet includes insects caught in flight or on foliage, and berries.
