Identification
Male 8·5 cm; female 9·2 cm
Male
- Green upperparts
- White crown, nape and rump
- Olive-green throat and chest
- Yellow belly
Female is a similar green colour but has no white.
Distribution
South America: found only in Bolivia and Brazil
Taxonomy
This species has in the past been placed in genus Pipra.
Subspecies
Two subspecies are recognized[1]:
- L. n. nattereri:
- Central Brazil south of the Amazon
- L. n. gracilis:
- South-central Brazil (upper Rio Madeira) to extreme north-eastern Bolivia
Habitat
Humid forests up to a height of 500 m.
Behaviour
Diet
Their diet consists of small insects and spiders, and probably small fruits as well.
