Identification

Male 8·5 cm; female 9·2 cm
Male

  • Green upperparts
  • White crown, nape and rump
  • Olive-green throat and chest
  • Yellow belly

Female is a similar green colour but has no white.

Distribution

South America: found only in Bolivia and Brazil

Taxonomy

This species has in the past been placed in genus Pipra.

Two subspecies are recognized[1]:

  • Central Brazil south of the Amazon
  • L. n. gracilis:
  • South-central Brazil (upper Rio Madeira) to extreme north-eastern Bolivia
