Mostly black, with orange or orange-yellow on lower back, rump, shoulder, and lower belly. Immature is greener than the adult with black throat. It is described as 'uncommon, becoming scarcer and threatened'. Among the threats described, habitat loss and nest parasitism by Shiny Cowbird seems especially important.

Endemic to the island of St. Lucia in the Lesser Antilles

This is a monotypic species.
