Both White-bellied Tyrannulet and White-crested Tyrannulet are larger than Straneck's Tyrannulet.

Breeds in Argentina in the dry western part of the country to Andean foothills, and possibly in Bolivia. During non-breading season migrates both north and east, occurring in Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay, and possibly Brazil.
