28 cm.

  • Mostly grey head with dark-spotted browner forehead to nape and white cheek patch
  • Dull brown upperparts with blackish barring
  • Chestnut scapulars and wing-coverts with grey outer webs
  • Greyish-white throat
  • Blue-grey breast getting whitish on belly
  • Black-and-white barring on flanks
  • Reddish-orange area around eye

Sexes similar, juveniles undescribed.

Distribution

Endemic to the mountains of central and northern Sumatra, Indonesia.
