Similar to the Grey-headed Sparrow.

Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, and Kenya.

Monotypic

Considered by some authorities to be a type of Grey-headed Sparrow. However, Sibley & Monroe (1993, 1996), Clements (2005, 2007) and Gill & Wright (2006, 2007) consider Passer swainsonii to be a separate species (Lepage, 2007).
