13-16cm. Plain olive-brown upperparts, pale yellow-white underparts, white eyebrow stripe. Dimorphic.

Southeastern United States from North Carolina south to northern Florida; from western West Virginia south along the Appalachians to main range; in western part of range north to southern Missouri. Winters in the Greater Antilles and eastern Mexico. Sometimes overshoots in migration as far north as central New York. Accidental vagrant in the western United States.
Winters from southeast Mexico and Belize to Guatemala and in the West Indies.

Flooded swamplands, canebrakes, and thickets in moist lowlands.

[edit] Behaviour

Large, bulky nests are constructed from moss, grass, and small leaves situated above ground in a tangle of tall reeds or vines. 3 to 5 white eggs are laid and are incubated by the female for about 14 days. The young leave the nest about 12 days after they have hatched.
