Identification
Male 22 cm, female 15 cm
A large highland sunbird with elongated central tail feathers.
In colouration it is a mixture of dark iridescent green (on the head and neck) and purple (on its back).
Distribution
Eastern Africa: found in Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
Taxonomy

There are 2 subspecies[1]:

Habitat
Open highland forests between 1750 4250 m. Heathland, bamboo, gardens and other cultivated areas.
Behaviour
An aggressive bird, which will protect his food source from all other birds.
Diet
There main dies is nectar, but they also eat insects, spiders etc.
