Identification
10cm (4 in). A tiny woodpecker.
- Rich brown underparts
- Faint pale streaks on breast
- Brown upperparts and wings
- Black crown with white spots, male with red spots on crown
- Brown ear-coverts
Juvenile undescribed.
Distribution
Found in a small area in northeast Brazil.
A rare and declining restricted-range species.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
It is sometimes regarded conspecific with Ochraceous Piculet but might be closer related to Mottled Piculet.
Habitat
Forests (Atlantic forest) and dry savanna (caatinga).
Occurs from lowlands up to 950m.
Behaviour
Diet
