Aethopyga temminckii

Identification

10 cm-12.5 cm. Mostly scarlet, grey belly, yellow and purple bands between the back and tail. The female is drab olive, rufous fringes to the wing and tail feathers.

Distribution

Borneo, Sumatra, Malaysia, and south west Thailand.

Taxonomy

Recently split from Aethopyga mystacalis (Scarlet or Javan Sunbird) which is found only on the Island of Java.

Aethopyga temminckii is monotypic.

Habitat

Moist lowland forests and montanes.

Behaviour

A diunal bird that generally occur in pairs or in small family group.
