Identification
60 - 65cm. A medium-sized hornbill, red-brown below, darker brown above
Male
- Bright rufous cheeks and throat
- Pale yellow bill

Similar species
Male Austen's Brown Hornbill have white cheeks and throat, females have a pale creamy bill.
Distribution
Found in southern Burma and southeast Thailand.
Has a small range and is probably threatened by habitat loss.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Has been treated conspecific with Austen's Brown Hornbill and placed in the genus Ptilolaemus with the latter.
Habitat
Evergreen and deciduous hill forest. Occurs from foothills up to 1500m.
Status
Classified as Near Threatened in the 2008 IUCN Red List.1
Behaviour
Diet unknown, probably similar to Austen's Brown Hornbill.
Breeding recorded during Feburary to April in Burma. A co-operative breeder. The nest is placed in a natural tree hole.
