Identification
28 cm. A soft coloured Green Pigeon.
- Greyish green plumage, brighter on throat, rump and uppertail-coverts
- Dark grey carpal edge and innermost secondaries
- Greyish-black median-coverts, greater-coverts and outer secondaries broadly edged yellow
- Grey-black primaries
- White vent and undertail-coverts marked with green
- Pale bluish green orbital skin
- Dark purplish red feet
Sexes similar, females duller with paler yellow wing markings. Juveniles probably similar to adult females.
Distribution
Found in the east-central Lesser Sundas on Timor, Roti and Semau (Indonesia and Timor-Leste).
Endangered by ongoing habitat loss. Lowland forest on those islands have been greatly reduced and fragmented.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Has been considered a subspecies of Thick-billed Green Pigeon or Sri Lanka Green Pigeon in the past.
Habitat
Moist lowland forests. Prefers primary or tall secondary forest. Occurs up to 160 m.
Behaviour
Forages in fruiting trees, sometimes with other Pigeons and usually in flocks of up to 20 birds. Recorded to eat figs.
No information about breeding or movements.
