[edit] Identification

50-55 cm. Black, white iris, blue eye ring, base of the head and neck feathers snow white, robust bill. It shuffles its wings on landing.

North and west Australia, Papua New Guinea, the Moluccas and New Britain.

[edit] Taxonomy

Polytypic. Consists of four subspecies.

[edit] Habitat

Rainforest edges, open forests and woodlands, taller scrublands, beaches, along watercourses with tall timber, farms and croplands.

[edit] Behaviour

Both sexes build a stick nest lined with grass in a tall tree and 2-4 eggs are laid. Both sexes feed the young.

The diet includes mainly grain but also fish, carrion, human food scraps, fruit and insects.
