Overview
Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historical Site is located on the Brazos River, in Washington County, northwest of Houston, between Brenham and Navasota. It is nicknamed the “Birthplace of Texas”, because this was where the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed in 1836. It is a historical site, but has good birding along a loop trail through woods and meadows, with views of the Brazos River.
