Identification
8cm - 9cm. Short, stubby, pale beak, pale cream eye, pale line above the eye, dull grey-brown head, olive-brown back, buff to yellow underparts. In the south and east of the country, the birds are light brown, while northwards and inland they become paler and more yellow. Sexes are similar; young birds have a greyer eye.

Habitat
Wooded areas, apart from very wet forests; they favour open eucalypt forests.
Behaviour
The diet includes insects.
A neatly woven dome shaped nest is made from grasses and other fine vegetation, with a narrow spout-like entrance towards the top. The nest is lined with feathers and soft vegetable matter. 2-3 brown-speckled cream eggs are laid, and are incubated by the female for about 12 days. Both parents care for the young birds. The young fledge after about 10 days.
